Overview of Programs offered at SSA-Northside
The goal of the Pre-Academy Program is to create a more focused environment where U7 and U8 boys and girls can prepare for a higher level soccer amongst other passionate and like-minded players. The aim of our pre-academy program is to teach players the basic skills, introduce positioning and continue to prepare them for success within our pre-academy program.
The program is led by Coach Daniel Dos Santos. The players begin training in late August and will go until mid November. In the spring, the season starts the first week of March and goes until mid May. The team practices twice a week and plays 8-9 games throughout each season against other local pre-academy teams.
The Academy Program is comprised of boys and girls ages 8-12 years old. The focus of the academy program at SSA-Northside is to provide the development of technical and tactical growth within a fun and rewarding environment. The ultimate goal of the program is the overall development of every individual player in each area of emphasis.
All Academy teams practice twice per week (either Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) and will be trained by one of our professionally licensed staff coaches to provide the players with the best foundation of skills, abilities and knowledge of the game. Our coaches follow a set curriculum, ensuring all Academy players are exposed to the same learning opportunities. In addition teams play between 10-12 games each season against other academy programs. Furthermore, teams will attend between 2-4 tournaments each year (Aug-May) depending on the level of team.
Players must try-out for the Academy Program, with no guarantee of acceptance. We do aim to get every player the opportunity to play Academy level soccer, but this is not always possible. In age groups with multiple teams, players are grouped according to skill level. This ensures consistent development for each player, as playing with/against similar skilled players at this age is important.
SSA-Northside strives to provide the premier competitive soccer experience for all players within our soccer community. Northside offers an opportunity for all older youth players (ages U13 to U19) to play soccer at a more challenging and competitive level, while still placing an emphasis on learning and having fun. Players are expected to give a greater commitment of time, energy, and focus to their teams. This program is designed for more serious players, who are interested in playing at a high level and in developing their skills.
Similar to academy teams, select teams are formed once per year, with tryouts typically occurring in late May or early June for teams that will play in the following fall and spring seasons. Players are assigned to teams based upon their individual skill levels and team requirements. Players and their parents at the U13-U15 level must commit to both the fall and spring seasons, and U16 to U19 players must commit to the fall season. Select teams train two times a week. Furthermore, teams typically play in 1-2 games per week throughout the season. Lastly, our teams play in 1-2 tournaments per season.
It is our goal to help players set and reach personal and team goals, which may include playing for a high school or college team. Coaches take seriously, and ask their players and their families to take seriously, the goal of providing a challenging and rewarding experience, that includes enjoying the fellowship of teammates, developing a love and appreciation for the beautiful game of soccer, and becoming a better and more complete individuals in the process.
